We collect the minimum we need to run Peekpile: verifying who you are, matching you to work, and moving money safely. Here’s exactly what we hold, why we hold it, and what you can do about it.

Introduction

Welcome to Peekpile’s Privacy Policy. Peekpile Technologies Limited (“Peekpile,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) protects your privacy and safeguards your personal information. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and store your information when you use our platform, website (peekpile.io and app.peekpile.io), mobile apps, and related services (collectively, the “Platform”).

By using the Platform, you agree to the collection and use of information described here. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Platform.

Read this alongside our Terms & Conditions. Capitalised terms that aren’t defined here carry the meaning given in the Terms.

Information we collect

2.1 · Information you give us

You share information with us when you:

  • Create an account: Name, email, password, phone number, and role (client or talent).
  • Complete your profile: Photo, headline, bio, skills, portfolio, work history, education, rate, location, languages.
  • Post jobs or apply for work: Job descriptions, proposals, budgets, timelines.
  • Make payments: Bank account details and payment information (processed by our regulated payment partners).
  • Communicate: Messages, reviews, ratings, and feedback exchanged on the Platform.
  • Verify identity: Government-issued ID, proof of address, professional certifications.
  • Contact support: Enquiries, tickets, and feedback.

2.2 · Information we collect automatically

When you use the Platform, we automatically log:

  • Device information: Device type, operating system, browser, unique identifiers, and mobile network.
  • Usage data: Pages viewed, features used, searches, clicks, session duration, referrers.
  • Location data: IP-based approximate location, and GPS location if you grant permission on mobile.
  • Cookies & similar tech: Session cookies, persistent cookies, web beacons, local storage.
  • Log data: IP address, access times, error logs.

2.3 · Information from third parties

We may receive information about you from:

  • Social media: If you connect a social account, we receive limited profile information.
  • Payment processors: Transaction status and confirmations from Paystack and our other payment partners.
  • Analytics providers: Aggregated usage statistics.
  • Public sources: Publicly available records used to verify credentials or prevent fraud.
  • Other users: Reviews and ratings about your work or conduct.

2.4 · Sensitive information

We don’t intentionally collect sensitive personal information (like race, political opinions, religion, health, or biometric data) except where required for identity verification and with your explicit consent. If you volunteer such data in your profile or communications, you do so at your own discretion.

How we use your information

We use what we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account.
  • Match clients with talent.
  • Process job postings and applications.
  • Power AI matching and search.
  • Enable in-platform messaging.
  • Process payments and hold escrow.
  • Display your public profile to other users.

3.2 · Security & verification

  • Verify identity and credentials.
  • Prevent fraud, abuse, and illegal activity.
  • Detect and respond to security incidents.
  • Enforce our Terms and comply with law.

3.3 · Communications

  • Send account notifications and updates.
  • Notify you of relevant opportunities.
  • Provide support and respond to enquiries.
  • Send transaction receipts.
  • Send optional marketing messages you can turn off any time.

3.4 · Improvement & analytics

  • Understand how the Platform is used.
  • Improve features and ship new ones.
  • Refine our AI matching.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues.

3.5 · Legal & compliance

  • Meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
  • Resolve disputes and process claims.
  • Protect our rights, property, and users.

How we share your information

4.1 · With other users

  • Your public profile (name, photo, bio, portfolio, skills, ratings) is visible to all users.
  • Clients see talent profiles when searching or receiving applications.
  • Talent see client profiles and job postings.
  • Messages are visible to the recipient.
  • Reviews and ratings are public.

4.2 · With service providers

We share limited information with trusted partners who help us run the Platform: payment processing (Paystack and other partners), cloud hosting and storage, email and SMS, analytics, customer support tooling, identity verification, and push notifications. Each is contractually bound to protect your data and use it only for the purpose we specify.

4.3 · For legal reasons

We may disclose your information to:

  • Comply with law, court orders, or government requests.
  • Enforce our Terms and prevent fraud.
  • Protect the rights and safety of Peekpile and users.
  • Respond to IP infringement claims.

4.4 · Business transfers

If Peekpile is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale, your information may transfer as part of that deal. We’ll notify you and give you choices.

4.5 · With your consent

We may share your information in other ways with your explicit consent.

We do not sell your personal information. Peekpile does not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties for their marketing purposes.

Data security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction:

  • Encryption in transit: Data moves between your device and our servers over TLS/SSL.
  • Encryption at rest: Sensitive data is encrypted in our databases.
  • Access controls: Employee access is limited on a need-to-know basis.
  • Monitoring: Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
  • Backups: Continuous backups to prevent data loss.
No security system is impenetrable. Keep your password confidential and tell us immediately if you spot unauthorised access to your account.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as we need to run the Platform, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

  • Active accounts: Retained while your account is active.
  • Inactive accounts: Accounts inactive for three or more years may be deleted after notice.
  • Deleted accounts: Some information may be retained for legal compliance, fraud prevention, and dispute resolution (typically five to seven years).
  • Transaction records: Retained as required by tax and accounting law.
  • Public content: Reviews and ratings may remain visible after deletion to preserve Platform integrity.

You can request deletion of your account by writing to privacy@peekpile.io. This is subject to legal retention requirements.

Your rights & choices

You have the following rights over your data.

  • Access & portability: Download your information from your account settings, or request a copy from privacy@peekpile.io.
  • Correction & update: Update your profile, preferences, and settings any time from your dashboard.
  • Deletion: Request account and data deletion. Some data may be retained for legal compliance.
  • Communication preferences: For marketing emails, unsubscribe from the email or in settings. For push notifications, toggle in your device or app settings. For SMS, reply STOP or update settings. You cannot opt out of essential service messages.
  • Cookies: Manage them in your browser. Disabling some may affect Platform functionality.
  • Object to processing: Contact privacy@peekpile.io to raise an objection.

To exercise any of these rights, write to privacy@peekpile.io. We respond within 30 days.

Cookies & tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, understand usage, remember your preferences, and, with your consent, measure advertising:

  • Essential cookies: Required for authentication and security. Cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies: Help us understand how the Platform is used so we can improve it.
  • Preference cookies: Remember settings for a smoother experience.
  • Advertising cookies: Used to show relevant ads and measure campaigns, only with your consent.

You can manage cookies from your browser settings. Most browsers let you refuse or be alerted when cookies are being set.

Third-party services & links

The Platform may link to or integrate with third-party services like payment processors, social platforms, and analytics. They have their own privacy policies and we’re not responsible for their practices. Review their policies before interacting with them.

Key third-party services: Paystack (payment processing), Tawk.to (customer support chat), cloud hosting, email/SMS providers, and analytics.

International data transfers

Peekpile is based in Nigeria and the Platform is used globally. Your information may be transferred, stored, and processed in countries other than yours, including jurisdictions with different data-protection laws. By using the Platform, you consent to those transfers and we take appropriate measures to protect your data wherever it lives.

Children’s privacy

The Platform is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you’re under 18, please don’t use the Platform. If you believe we hold information about a child, write to privacy@peekpile.io and we’ll delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or business. We notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy with a new date, emailing you (for significant changes), and showing a prominent notice on the Platform.

Continued use of the Platform after the update takes effect means you accept the changes.

Your responsibilities

You’re responsible for:

  • Providing accurate and truthful information.
  • Keeping your account information up to date.
  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your password.
  • Protecting personal information you share with other users.
  • Complying with data-protection laws when handling others’ personal information.
  • Reviewing and understanding this Privacy Policy.

Nigeria data protection rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR), you have the right to:

  • Be informed about data collection and use.
  • Access your personal data.
  • Rectify inaccurate data.
  • Erase data (the “right to be forgotten”).
  • Restrict processing.
  • Data portability.
  • Object to processing.
  • Withdraw consent.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
